Christmas Puzzle 2014

Christmas PuzzleThis year's annual Charity Christmas Puzzle has now been posted, and is available to download.

This, the 24th annual Puzzle that Gordon Gray has set, has a theme designed to help completion and will appeal to people who enjoy doing Crossword puzzles, such as in the Daily Telegraph (though it is not a Crossword puzzle). Puzzlers have plenty of time to find the answers and Puzzles should be returned, with donation, by 25 January 2015.

Gordon has posted Puzzles to those on distribution list, so these should be received in the next few days. Anyone else who would like a copy of the Puzzle can access it from the web at www.christmaspuzzle.co.uk. Alternatively puzzles can be collected from St Mary's Eaton Bray.

All the money you donate, except for the prize-money, will go to charity.

Any corrections will be posted to the blog and to the corrections page.

Our boiler packed in last night so it was early to bed with hot water bottles and the freshly downloaded puzzle. After half an hour I had about 40 answers and decided it was time to rest my eyes. It is always a high spot of Christmas to get the puzzle and this year is just the same. I look forward to cracking the code - Gordon you know a different version of TGODOY to me!

December 8, 2014, Oonagh Griffith says:

Should 6a be ---AGE-?

December 9, 2014, Liz says:

6a looks OK to me. But isn't there one blank too many in 16b? Shouldn't it be --STA----?

December 9, 2014, Gordon Gray says:

Liz is correct! There are too many blanks in 16b. The correct combination of blanks and letters should be: _ _ STA _ _ _ _ Drat, drat and double drat!

December 9, 2014, Daryl says:

I just wanted to check that there are the correct number of homophones this year. I'm feeling happy with my answers but didn't find any homophones in questions 31 to 40.

December 10, 2014, Oonagh Griffith says:

Aah. 6a I have you now!

December 10, 2014, Gordon Gray says:

Daryl - I believe the Puzzle contains the correct number of homophones.

December 10, 2014, pauline fincher says:

Disappointed that my 2013 result wasn't included in my total for the last nine years. So, I decided to check my former postcode (from 10 years ago) and there was my 2013 score added to the scores from 2001 - 2004. Very strange as latest puzzle had correct postcode when posted!

December 11, 2014, Gordon Gray says:

Pauline - Thank you for pointing this out. I think I have rectified the situation for you. Have a look and let me know if there is still a problem.

December 11, 2014, pauline fincher says:

Thank you Gordon for responding so quickly. Yes the results are all there in one place now. A good incentive to complete this year's puzzle and try to improve on 2013. Thanks once more.

December 12, 2014, Mac McCowan says:

After a tenuous start I've now completed and have all the theme words and homophones. Whether or not all my answers are correct is another matter, but good fun tackling my tenth puzzle.

December 27, 2014, Jean says:

Its a shame to see that this, like so many good quizzes, is now being asked on AB

January 5, 2015, Mac McCowan says:

Well, I'm absolutely dumbfounded and amazed. Having just looked up my score, I see I have full marks which I didn't expect..........my forecast was 117/118.

February 28, 2015, Brian Stone says:

Hi Gordon, Thanks for returning my marked entry. However, on the website under "Your Results", my 2014 score still doesn't appear. Is there something wrong? Thanks Brian
