Christmas Puzzle 2016

Christmas PuzzleThis year's annual Charity Christmas Puzzle has now been posted, and is available to download.

This, the 26th annual Puzzle that Gordon Gray has set, has a theme designed to help completion and will appeal to people who enjoy doing Crossword puzzles, such as in the Daily Telegraph (though it is not a Crossword puzzle). Puzzlers have plenty of time to find the answers and Puzzles should be returned, with donation, by 29 January 2017.

Gordon has posted Puzzles to those on distribution list, so these should be received in the next few days. Anyone else who would like a copy of the Puzzle can access it from the web at www.christmaspuzzle.co.uk. Alternatively puzzles can be collected from St Mary's Eaton Bray.

All the money you donate, except for the prize-money, will go to charity.

Any corrections will be posted to the blog and to the corrections page.

December 8, 2016, Di Platts says:

Early days yet, but I wonder whether 16b should have i instead of e between r and t?

December 8, 2016, Di Platts says:

sorry, spoke too soon. Have now solved it!

December 9, 2016, Anne Chippindale says:

Still very early, but might 30b possibly have one dash too many?

December 10, 2016, Liz Price says:

30b is fine as it is.

December 10, 2016, Anne Chippindale says:

Thanks, Liz, was about to post as much myself, having looked further ...

December 12, 2016, Chris Glover says:

I wonder whether 18b should have an A instead of the E

December 12, 2016, Bill says:

Chris - E is fine in 18b, Chambers spelling!

December 13, 2016, Daryl Tose says:

Can anyone confirm that 21a is correct? I have the other 119 answers but the only answers that fit the letters for 21a don't seem to match up to the clue at all.

December 14, 2016, Zbignew says:

21a is correct and straightforward.

December 15, 2016, Daryl Tose says:

Thanks - still scratching my head

December 21, 2016, Peter Reed says:

I've done everything apart from 10b, which must start with F. I can't find any word that fits and makes sense. Is this one correct (sure it will be).

December 21, 2016, Gordon Gray says:

Yes, as you presume, 10b is clued correctly.

December 21, 2016, Keith A. Simmonds says:

Should 7C not carry an extra blank at the end, or are we looking at an alternative spelling?

December 21, 2016, Dot Rochard says:

Once again Many thanks to Gordon for yet another brilliant puzzle

December 22, 2016, Malcolm says:

Keith, 7C should not carry an extra blank at the end and we are not looking at an alternative spelling.

December 31, 2016, Debby Horsman says:

Strangely my first attempt at 7c needs one fewer dashes at the end, not one extra. Back to the drawing board. Wonderful entertainment as ever with several 'lightbulb moments' so far. Thank you Gordon.

January 8, 2017, Mrs Pauline Fincher says:

Should there be one less dash at the end of 25b? Decided to do this year's puzzle at a more leisurely pace, so have only just noticed.

January 12, 2017, Malcolm says:

Pauline, 25b is fine as it is. In fact Gordon is on top form this year with no errors at all in his quiz.

January 12, 2017, pauline fincher says:

Thanks Malcolm. It all makes so much more sense - now I've re-read it.

January 26, 2017, Pat Kirby says:

Please could I have the address to which I should send completed puzzle? Thank you Pat Kirby

January 30, 2017, Gordon Gray says:

All entries received before Sunday will be entered into the draw for the winners so please do send in your entry even though the nominal deadline has passed
