I have argued before that, in these days when there are plenty of computer aids to solving this puzzle, part of my role in setting the puzzle is to get people to use their brains.

I am convinced that one of the pleasures I can provide is for you to enjoy that moment when the penny finally drops and, after a lot of hard work, you finally crack the puzzle's theme. So I make no apology for making the theme just a little bit devious, but hopefully not so difficult that it can't be solved.

I totally agree with Gordon. I was so chuffed when I cracked 37b, and also when I cracked the theme of the whole puzzle. I was also greatly relieved, though, that there was a misprint at 10a.

Fully agree with Diana. Once the penny had dropped with 37b, everything fell into place (well, alright then, eventually)
